How I lost over 100lbs in a matter of months, and how I'm losing the COVID 50.

M26, 6'4", SW: 345lbs, CW: 251lbs, GW: 180lbs

In 2018-19, I was able to get myself down to 196lbs after being obese since age 11 (two grandparents died and parents divorced within a year, it was a lot for little me to handle so I turned to food). I was able to lose weight with the following:

  1. Tracking calories on MyFitnessPal and eating at a pretty deep deficit
  2. Using a fitbit to make sure I'm getting a good amount of exercise in each day

Honestly, it was all CICO.

2020 was very hard for me. I had just moved out of my mom's house into my own place. I started dating for the first time and he moved in. My job went remote and that was a shit show. It's just been a lot, and without my gym and external supports, I lost track of myself. Not only did I stop tracking calories, I've been going to get dinner for my boyfriend and I, and getting extra for myself that I eat on the way home. Things like that. I could get away with snacking here and there when I was walking around at work and lifting weights at lunch with an HIIT class after work. But now that I'm a work-at-homer whose cardio routine consists of walking to the coffee maker and back, my body has started to respond to what I've been putting in it.

I was so proud at the weight I'd lost. I wore old tshirts and gym shorts for almost a year. Then when I tried to put my pants back on - I could not. Even my underwear is tighter, and I had to buy larger shirts. I'm not angry because I'm not as big as I once was, but I can't let that make me lazy (I used to tell myself, "as long as I'm under 300lbs").

I've been trying a few things. My situation is different than last time I lost weight - I have an apartment with a kitchen, and I can make my own food. I have to admit you guys, I suck. I'm good at cooking healthy foods, especially in my instant pot. However portion control is my undoing, and I live so close to fast food restaurants, it's so tempting to go. I tried keto and I definitely lost weight when I was consistent, but it didn't make me feel good at all - the "keto flu" never went away, and I've come to believe that I'm just someone who needs carbs to feel normal. I also tried extended water fasting - great for losing water weight in a matter of days, but again, not for me. IF only works if I do it by accident, if I'm planning an eating window I just find it impossible to stick through. It's been a long time of trying these fad diets with no results except a lot of "start over tomorrow" as I sit in the drive through at Panda Express.

I've decided to stop the nonsense and do what worked for me last time. It's probably not the most nutritious, but for me it's sustainable and it works so well. Basically, I lose weight when I live on lean cuisine and diet soda. I know it sounds nuts. But eating pre-packaged frozen healthy meals as well as canned foods from Progresso and Campbells that are nutritious, while letting myself have my daily cup of coffee and some diet soda, I lose weight like a fat burning machine.

I'm on day #3 of what I'm calling "sanity". I'm too scared to weigh myself, but I'm thankful I'm able to keep a calorie deficit and exercise for the first time in over a year.

You really just have to find what works for you and stick to it.

So I'm sitting here with my lean cuisine mac and cheese and diet mountain dew, so hopeful for the future. Most nights I've gone to bed with an upset stomach and a sense of failure, so this is refreshing.

I can't wait to wear my old pants. lol

r/loseit has always been what keeps me going. I love you all. We can do this.
