Hello!
Is anyone familiar with an RMR test that offers RER score (respiratory exchange ratio)? I took the test this morning and am really confused about my results.
I took the test at 11AM today and my last meal prior was 8PM the night before. I’ve been in a calorie deficit since starting calorie and macro tracking. I eat 30% of my calories from protein, a pescatarian and low GI / whole food diet (the only processed food I eat is a daily protein supplement shake).
The test indicated that 100% of my calories burned was coming from sugar and 0% from fat. In a fasted state and calorie deficit shouldn’t I be burning at least some percentage of calories from fat?
I’ve been calorie/macro tracking, intermittent fasting, weight training 4x per week and doing cardio 6-7x per week for over 8 weeks and seeing very little impact on my weight (I was fairly sedentary with poor diet before that). I had metabolic blood work done this week and everything came back completely normal, so my doctor says there isn’t a metabolic reason my body composition isn’t changing considering the hard work I’m doing.
Is anyone familiar with the RER metric, does it mean I’m not burning body fat? Is there another sub I should be posting this question?
Thanks in advance!
