Week 2. I've been here before

This post is to remind a future me what this feels like. And more importantly remind the current me how I have failed from here in the past.

I have been at week two too many times. I've had successful diets a couple of times out of multiple attempts over 15 years. But usually things go wrong in week two or three for me. I end up starting all over again in a few months. My problem is I start cheating slightly and by week 4 the lack of progress makes me lose the mental strength to carry on.

Last week was difficult. I had to actively deny myself food while thinking about food the whole day most of the week. Today, I feel like I have somewhat overcome the urge to eat unhealthy foods. I had to remind myself to eat at 2pm. I also went through the grocery store and only managed to pick up papaya and raw chicken. No tiny pack of dry fruit, no protein bar (I've abused those in previous diets).

But this is where I normally fail. Weeks 2-3 are really the big problem for me. So this time I am being extra careful and keeping detailed logs of everything I eat. I think the key from here is to not get over confident. The diet should not blend into the background while I go back to eating somewhat healthy. Because that will so easily turn into eating my maintenance calories and that would be the end of the diet.

I think I am going to treat the diet as a project and make sure some 'work' is being done on it everyday. So if it seems easy I am probably finding crafty ways to get the calories in. I will also spend the 15-30 mins every night going over the day's food intake and planning for the next day.

I am also going to interact with more people here. I don't get to talk to many people during the day (even before the pandemic) so there aren't many people who can hold me accountable. But I promise to come back here and post an update after every two weeks.

Thanks for sharing your stories. Feels good to know I am not doing this alone and other people have similar problems with food. See you all in two weeks.
