I started my running journey back in January. I used my treadmills IFIT program, gradually doing 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minute, 4 minutes, 8 minutes, 12 minutes etc runs. I worked my way up to 2 miles.
At this point, I felt like I had “graduated”, and after running 2 miles, I bumped myself to 3 miles instantaneously, without gradually going up.
I did 3 miles three times a week, and 2 miles two times a week. The other two days I take a break from running. I was doing fine for several weeks using this routine with lots of energy, but now I’ve hit a wall. I feel like I’m DYING doing 3 miles, even 2 miles. Running just seems so much harder, it’s like my feet are dragging.
My question: did I mess up by bumping up my mileage to 3 miles instantaneously instead of gradually? (ie. 2.2 then 2.4 then 2.6, etc). I read online that too fast of a mileage increase tires out the body.
How can I get back on track and feel the motivation and energy I once had without feeling like I’m dying?
