A small win - Thank you for the tough love

F/30/5”5’ (SW:130 | GW:120 | CW: 125)

Last year I wrote this post. I felt lost, was being whiny and had a lot of excuses. I took the comments to heart and straightened out my shit. I didn’t have any plan, but I shifted my focus on improving my back, and portion control. Managed to do a 5-10min plank work out daily for 2 months. Lost 3-4lbs. Then I fell off the wagon. It was around the same time the festivities came around. Except this time, I had no excuses. I was eating my way through the holidays. My backaches return and even my knees started hurting from sitting. IT WAS WORRYING but I did very little to rectify it.

Fast forward to 2020, COVID19 happened and everyone was sent home. I was like, shit, I have no reason to be lazy. And this time round, there’s no food pushers around me. I don’t drink 2-3 cups of sweetened coffee just because another colleague is going for a coffee run. I don’t see my in laws as often (although they stay really close and would drop off food despite me giving a firm no). The moment I shifted my perspectives, I realised I was my biggest food pusher. I love food and I have a problem saying no to people. It felt like, I was being rude for rejecting a GOODWILL, the donut looks good anyway so I’ll take it. AND THEN I PUSH THE FOOD DOWN MY MOUTH. It was all me. So I learnt to make a change.

I’m ashamed to say, even up to this point I’m not a big fan of having a detailed plan for my diet and fitness. I wanted something I could easily adapt into my erratic schedules when this pandemic ends. So I set a few rules:

  • I give myself a caloric range between 1200 - 1500. And log it in daily.
  • I will have a daily snack. Half a can of soda and some chocolates. They hardly exceed 200cal and helped me so much with controlling my cravings.
  • At least 30min of walking or home workouts, or both. If I felt really lazy, then the least I could do complete a recovery exercise for my lower back. I found 2 Youtube channels that I liked, and rotated their routines.

2 months in and I lost 5lbs. The band around my sports bra fits better, I feel more energetic and clear headed now and I stopped snacking mindlessly. My backaches still acts up despite my efforts to strengthen and protect it, but I feel more confident when I move heavy things. My knee is great now too!

Sorry, I know this is a long ramble about how I got here, but I wanted to share a small win. What everyone else here is doing is way more fierce and intense, and I truly admire the grit everyone has. I only had 10 pounds to lose and get my health back in shape. So thank you for calling out my shit, and thank you for reading this.
