Weight Loss for Everyone: Relationship with food - everything has to be really yum. I think this is not a healthy attitude.

Relationship with food - everything has to be really yum. I think this is not a healthy attitude.

personal preferences aside when I use an example to illustrate what I’m talking about!!

Everything I eat always has to be really yum. Otherwise I feel like it’s a “waste of calories” and a “waste of a meal”. This doesn’t seem like a very healthy attitude. When I see people eat cornflakes for breakfast I just think “it’s not yuck, but it’s not delicious” so I wouldn’t want to eat it. I would go and buy a mocha from a cafe and have that instead. If someone has a yoghurt or some almonds for a snack I think it’s a waste of calories when they could be having something really yum instead. To me, I want all food to be pleasurable.

It’s not that I think it’s dumb that they’re eating that food, but I wish I could have a relationship with food where 80% of what I eat is just food that tastes good enough that is healthy and fuels my body.

Sometimes I do binge eat, but mostly my weight issue is because all I eat is junk food, and it’s easy to go over calories with junk food every day.

There are some healthy foods I think are yummy and I eat these because the are delicious, but not enough to really fill up an eating plan. I don’t think it’s an issue of choosing healthy foods that I enjoy, more an issue where I need to somehow adjust my expectations or my relationship with food. I have always been like this though so I’m not sure how to reset this.

Has anyone experienced this or had any success in changing this part of their relationship with food?
