Hello
This is gonna be a bit long, I'll try to make it clear. I'm 23, male, 92 kilos/205 lbs, 23% of fat and 67 kilos/147 lbs of muscles mass.(Ive seen a specialized doctor and ran some tests to know that) and I also have a great scale that can calculate lots of stuff at home( body fat, muscular mass, fluids(if youre drinking enough), visceral fat etc.
So anyway, I'm french and gyms closed in october. Before that, I started hitting the gym with a friend and eating better for like 3 months before they closed. I went down from 95 kilos to 87, I was feeling great and I started to see changes.
Then they closed, I had no motivation to do stuff at home and two weeks ago I was weighting 92.3 kilos.
So this time I finally got some dumbells and I'm doing a mix of dumbells workouts and freeletics(body weight cardio and muscle training)
I'm also counting * ALL* my calories, I weight every gram of whatever I eat and I log it in Myfitnesspal.
My scale says my basal metabolism is around 2050 calories, so I guessed a calorical maintenance(the magical number where you keep your weight) was around 2200-2300.
I'm now eating 1700 calories a day since two weeks, I won't detail everything but I eat healthy food, I have macros sorted out etc.
First week, I went from 92.3 kilos to 91,7, cool. Scale said I lost like 1+% body fat, gained some muscles, okay.
Now today, end of second week, I weight myself, 92.3. What the F I think, especially since I ate lightly yesterday, no carbs(so less water) and 92.3 on the morning. Literally my starting weight two weeks ago. Incredibly demoralizing, because even if I'm less hungry than I thought I would be, I really weight everytime and am super careful so no progress at all in a week is quite sad. Even worse, I gained weight.
Now at least with that scale I have more details, apparently this week I lost 0.3% of body fat(thats really not a lot) and I gained 500 grams of muscles(that, even if I'm a beginner, I doubt)
But I know the scale is reasonably accurate because I got the same data when I got tested with the doctor, and my dad too(who does about 15 hours of sport a week, so he does lots of tests)
So what could I be doing wrong? Theres no way 1700 calories isn't a deficit for my weight. I tried to cut 500 calories per day(2200-1700) plus the calories I burn 3x/week and soon 4x/week during my workouts.
That should be at least 3500 calories deficit per week; i.e 1 lb of fat gone/500 grams every week. Yet I gained weight.
I'm not stopping because I feel good and stronger every workout, but my main goal for now clearly remains fat loss, so this week got me super demoralized. My goal for today was something like 91 kilos, and I'm at 92.3..
I don't seem to have any particular issue, and please believe me I weight EVERYTHING and I'm super cautious about it. WHich also made me realize I must have been eating easily 2500 calories a day before, yet another reason why I don't understand why I'm not losing.
So yeah it was only a week, but I don't get it. I know when fat cells are about to be gone, they get full of water and your weight stays the same for some time then you lose the weight, but I mean it's been a week.
On the other hand my brother simply eat less in the week(and a lot when he is with us in the week ends) and hes easily losing 1-2 kilos every week(Were using the same scale)
So yeah, I'm kind of mad. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong.
If it's just because I gained muscles like the scale says then fine, but I also didn't lose any fat.
What do you guys think? I just want to do it right.
Thanks :)
