It took until my late twenty's to early thirties to get to my goal body weight and composition and it was due to choosing quality foods above all else.
My in laws have taken notice and have asked me for help with their son who is still in elementary school who is topping the obese category for his age and height.
I don't know how to approach this. The family tries to curb his eating but he ends up binge eating with the help of the family after a drawn out guilt trip he puts them through. I didn't want to give bad advice so I kept it simple and suggested that they make him healthier meals but he hates them.
If we don't pay attention he would sneak a second or third helping of carbs like noodles and rice. I know that diets cause weight gain and I don't want to set him down that path of ups and downs. So I have not placed restrictions on him other than trying to help them try higher quality foods.
Anyone have experience with fixing a stubborn child's eating habits successfully for long term?
Before my intervention he would be eating serving sizes that were equal to mine or more. He most eats foods from a can or package like spam and hot dogs and lots of rice and bread and he does not stomach vegetables at all. Now each meal he is watched over like a hawk so that he doesn't sneak more carbs in.
He is not physically active at all but neither is the rest of the family but their eating habits are okay in comparison. What should we do? Anything I search on youtube or google outlines the issue but doesn't give any helpful insight that I haven't already suggested such as better foods. He refuses to eat anything healthy.
