Is anyone here struggling with using food as a way to bond with or show affection to people?

So now for a weird issue I’ve been noticing.

I tend to bond over food. Show affection through food. It’s weird.

Before I started my journey, I’d visit one of my best friends after work with wings for the both of us and it’d be nice catching up over food. If she was mad at me, or sad for any reason, I’d say “let’s go out, get some McDonald’s (or etc)”

Going out with girls for me always included buying us something to eat. It’s just how I show I care. Ask them if they’re hungry, if i can get them anything. Naturally once there I get something for myself too.

Last year when I had a fling with this girl, she’d sneak out and we would chill in the car with a bunch of junk food like chips, chocolate, candy, etc.

Now that I’m watching my calorie intake (and severely disappointed in the amount of calories that everything has), I don’t know how to hang out with people anymore.

3 days ago my best friend wanted to see me after work and we went out to eat but me with 1,500 calories for the day already, I kind of just watched her eat. I didn’t get anything for myself but water and some limes. but that was just really weird.

Is anyone else struggling with this? How would I fix something like this?
