Did anyone else accidentally lose weight?

A couple years ago my father was diagnosed with diabetes. For whatever reason I thought it'll run in the family so I started cutting out sugar without realizing it was the best descision ever.

I was no means obese but I was definitely chubbier than I liked to be for my height. 220lbs and 6ft

But yeah, after moving back in with my dad we had new diets that had next to no sugar. I used to drink pop everyday. Beer became light beer. Sweets were now cheeses and veggies. While the food wasn't always nutritious or healthy, it was the sugar addiction that was holding me back.

After a year or so (we didn't even have a scale) I checked my weight and was a little blown away that I was 180lbs. Almost nothing in my routine changed except no sugar. I do work construction so Im active as fuck but no real workout routine.

Now I want to put the weight back on but with muscle. I have to start somewhere.
