How isn’t everyone in prison underweight

I already thought about this a few times, but now I need an answer. I don’t know if this is the right sub, but I will give it a go.

I’ve just seen a photo of my old classmate, who has been released from prison after 2 year sentence. He’s never been over extremly weight, but he wasn’t skinny neither. Now, he looks unhealthy skinny.

How do people that go to prison maintain their weight? If you have a 120 kg dude go into prison, where he even might start lifting, where the hell he finds his 3500 kcal maintenance? How isn’t he 70 kg when leaves?
