Helping a family member lose weight

So I have been trying to help one of my parents lose weight last summer and ever since. At first, I used to record all of his food, police him during fasting hours, and help him get enough sleep, and it worked: he lost around 40-45 lbs, not his target goal but still progress. However, when fall hit, exercise became hard to do outside. Even though we have an indoor treadmill, it isn't as enjoyable as outdoor exercise for him. So while I could monitor his food and Intermittent fasting during fall and winter, he was only maintaining weight instead of losing. Eventually, he slowly started gaining back the lost pounds. I've concluded that in order to help someone with this issue, the only thing I can do is remind them of the healthy habits since they have to develop the long term healthy habits to maintain a healthy weight. Any suggestions on what to do on my part?
