Finally decided to start losing weight, but seem to be getting fatter

I haven't ever been careful about my weight, just relying on my metabolism and tall height (to stretch out the weight.)

Decided to finally change that.

For the last month or so, I've gone from 3-4k calories a day to 1k calories. Result is I look fatter than ever. Beer belly has got massive, kids have started commenting on how fat I look, I just don't get it.

I'm going to keep on doing what I'm doing. I assume this is just a temporary metabolism change, but it is a bit dispiriting. I thought I would have started seeing at least minor results by now. Instead I'm seeing gains in weight.

Btw - I have ruled out body dysphoria. I have someone in my household who is checking my weight and measuring my waistline.

But again, I assume this is just my body's way of reacting to fewer calories, I just wanted to rant and maybe get some reassurance. A lot of my weight was probably hidden before because I'm pretty tall. I've been very strict with myself with not eating and getting more exercise.
