Calorie deficit and exercising, why did I gain weight?

Hello everyone,

This is the 2nd week that I’ve been making a lifestyle change in order to lose weight and get fitter.

Over a week, I’ve lost 2-3 lbs while running, weight lifting, and eating healthy. I know I’m eating a deficit because I track/measure everything that I eat in an app. I was super motivated by the 2-3 lbs, but during the last few days every time I step on the scale in the morning, it says I’m back at where I started. What am I doing wrong? I feel like it’s too soon to see a muscle mass increase and I’m eating at a calorie deficit.

Each day I run, weight-lift, and do a 20 minute kettle bell exercise. I’m burning around 400 calories in exercise and, like I said before, I’m eating at a deficit. Do I need to exercise more/eat less? I know Weight-loss takes time, but why did my body weight increase?

Edit: I don’t know if it matters, but I’m eating a higher protein diet.
