ive never posted here, this is my first time but is the last thing i could think of to help me and my mum to persuade my dad to change his diet. This time last year he suffered from a major heart attack and out of a miracle was not fatal. The first couple of months after the heart attack his diet was reasonably better, eating smaller portions etc. But now hes just gone back to the same old foods he had been eating previously. im currently studying a nutrition degree at university and i simply cannot get through to him at all.
His diet will consist of a high amount of unhealthy fats (butter, full fat milk) and an overload of carbs throughout the day with little to no exercise to use the fuel from the carbs leading to him to gain weight. He has little to no protein, the most he has will be from a piece of fatty steak or eggs. He is a very simple minded man due to his upbringing of being a workaholic never giving any second thought of what he eats, he simply views any food infront of him as fuel to carry on working even if it be a large amount of bread, butter, pastry, red meats etc. he never eats any greens or fruits as he just sees them as "rabbit food" which gets me extremely angry when he says that, he would rather eat a packet of crisps rather than a handful of grapes meaning he is missing out on vital nutrients.
i could seriously do with some advice on how to get through to him as if he carries on like this he is more than likely to have another heart attack which could be fatal which me, my mum and sisters cannot afford.
thanks for your time
