I started taking Zyrtec daily last March, worked better for me than my usual Claritin.
Between March and end of November of this year I gained 40 pounds. While I could partially chalk it up to COVID and being more "indoorsy", I had never gained weight that fast before.
I didn't realize it was the Zyrtec as I am also on a handful of prescription medications, so I always think of their side effects first versus over-the-counter medicine - but I was wrong! OTC medication can have huge side effects!
I stopped taking Zyrtec right before Thanksgiving as I suspected it was making me sleepy. I've lost 11 pounds with zero effort since then, starting right away after I stopped. I finally realized it must have been the Zyrtec and discussed with my Doctor - she agreed, based on the timeline and the lack of other changes.
I'm SO relieved to have found out why I was gaining so fast. Now I can get back on track. Check your OTCs for side effects and discuss with your doctor. Don't stop taking medications without discussing with your doctor first. Be well!
