Hi, My name is Thorbjørn, and I am a Designer with a great interest in behavioral design, from Denmark.
I used to say "I'm a fat man caught in the perfect body!"
2 years ago, I saw myself in a picture, and I had a hard time recognizing myself, apparently the fat man got out :)
Even though my moobs were nice, this was super unpleasant, and so I decided that I wanted to loose weight.
I started investigating, and found out, that statistically, bungee weight was REALLY unhealthy, and most people that were doing "diets" would go down, and then up again, aka bungee. Also, seen from a Design perspective, all of these diets does not deal with the most important aspect of weight loss, which is the stable and controlled weight, instead they will focus on extremes and build themselves around the idea of shame and punishment. If you want to change something, this is a bad design of a diet.
I can go on about this for hours, but to summarize and using a known phrase: "If you use punishment as guidance, you are not teaching to become better at solving the problem, you are teaching to become better at hiding the problem!"
So, I decided to make my own "diet", which was not about loosing or gaining weight, but about controlling my weight. I was inspired by a "diet" developed by a mathematician, but it had so many flaws, that I decided to create my own, but based on the same principal, which is, you cannot gain more weight than what you eat :)
Long story short, I have now developed an app, I have only used it on me and my girlfriend, where it seems to be working as intended (I have reached my target, and staying there). But now I would like to try it with someone else, so, if you want to try something new, and want to help me test my idea. Please let me know.
The principals behind the app.
- It's about habits, and understanding yourself.
- I want to remove the shame and guilt that most diets build themselves around.
- It's meant to be an encouragement app, that encourage good habits.
- Simplicity, as simple and little effort as possible using the app.
- It will work together with any diet you are on.
- You are worthwhile, and you should know that.
The requirements
- You have to weight yourself every morning.
- You have to weight every meal (not liquids) the more precise the better, but eyeballing it is also ok. ( You will get really good at eyeballing quickly :) )
Since the app is in a very early stage, here is some testing requirements
- You need instructions. (the app is not done, and is lacking in some areas)
- Understanding Metrics (yes, I am trying to make it work with lbs as well)
- If you have discord, that is for sure an advantage.
If you are interested, please write me a personal message, or a comment here.
Thank you all for reading this long post :)
