How to cook as a person living alone?

Hi,

I am a student living alone most of the time, and i love cooking, i have gained weight steadily over les last years to now be considered obese by the BMI (honestly I dont believe it...) i weigh 83.5 kg for 165 cm. I can still dress at normal stores (i started to accept to wear and buy clothes that are bigger than M). I wish to lose some weight. My first small goal is to be back under 80kg (which would put me in the BMI overweight section again). The reason that i think i gain weight is because I eat a lot. I am bad at portion sizes and cooking for one. All recipes i find are for huge amounts of people. And even when I am cooking for myself without a recipe there always are leftovers and i am then scared that it will go bad. I currently have at least 3 days worth of food standing in my kitchen with no space in my fridge or freezer (because its ridiculously small and i share it with a roommate (a roommate i told that she could eat my food, she didn't... )) How can you cook for one person only ? Also i always overestimate my hunger (yesterday's lunch basically was enough for the whole day) ...

Do you have any tips and ticks to not leave so much leftovers that i feel obligated to eat (bc I dont want to throw it away?)
