Just the Beginning: M34 SW:317 CW:311.4

I don't even know where to begin. I've never been in great shape. I probably hit 200 by my 10th grade year and I never looked back. Fast forward to 20 years later, and I am struggling with how I've treated my body. It's not so much a self esteem thing, it more shame. Shame for the way I've let my fitness choices affect my wife and son (18 months old). By the time I get done with work I have little to no energy left to fully be present with my family. My toddler is in go mode all the time, and I can see his frustration start to come out when I'd rather just rest or relax on the couch.

My goal is not to be some fitness genius or health guru, but have a healthy lifestyle. One where I can take my son hiking or camping when he gets older and not have to stop every few minutes. One where I can come home from work after a long day and still have the energy to spend quality time with my wife and son. One where I don't have to feel exhausted by menial tasks in my dad to day. I know if I don't do it now it will become harder and harder as I get older to make the necessary changes to be around for the big moments in my son's life.

I've been saying it for years that I want to get healthy so I looking for advice and accountability. I've told a good friend of mine that I have a goal to run a 10K by the end of next year. The plan for now is to keep walking daily (this morning I walked 3 miles in about 49 minutes) until I lose some of the weight to make running easier on my joints. I'm using MyfitnessPal to track my daily caloric intake. Any tips from you guys/gals that are doing it? That have seen success in the day to day?

Thanks to you all.
