Hello lovely denizens of r/loseit!
I've been very fat since I was a teenager, and being forced onto very restrictive diets when I was young and merely slightly chubby really messed with my relationship to food for my entire life. I've recently been making great strides in reassessing and reorienting how I eat, getting regular exercise, etc. While I am technically dieting, that's terminology I prefer to avoid for a number of reasons.
So I've been controlling my calories pretty successfully for the last two months, definitely the longest sustained period of healthy eating I've ever experienced. I've been logging meals, and just over a week ago I got a Ring Fit Adventure, which I'm using to get intense exercise for about 30 minutes daily. I seem to be losing between 1-5 pounds a week, and I'm happy for that number to vary as long as I'm gradually dropping weight and exercising to ensure that I'm more healthy. I'm pretty proud of my progress thus far, have got myself into a sustainable routine, and am optimistic about my health improving going forward.
However!
I'm vaguely concerned about not taking in enough calories now. I'm aware that under a certain caloric intake you can suffer negative health effects and lose muscle. I'm currently eating around 200-700 calories below BMR, without factoring in my exercise. Is this a safe caloric deficit to have? I feel fine, eat when actually hungry, and rarely feel like I'm denying myself something my body wants. I just figured it might be a good idea to consult with folks who understand this process and could advise.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this, and to anyone who replies!
