I log my meals religiously. I've lost a lot of weight. But my improvement hasn't come close to MFP's predictions ("If every day were like today..."), and while I'm not in a rush, I'd like to get better at reporting what I'm actually consuming. Do y'all weigh your food or do something else to get better precision?
Very few of the things I eat are prepackaged serving sizes of prepared foods, so I end up analogizing a lot right now, particularly in two situations:
- When my spouse cooks I have the gist of what gets made, but if don't know if e.g. the vegan stroganoff or tofu curry or whatever is the same recipe I'm finding on MFP, so I just kind of pick one and try to stay accurate about portion size. When in doubt I look to see if there's a college cafeteria version because I figure those are usually the worst calorie-wise, but there has to be a better way.
Is there a middle ground between this and spending time after dinner finding the recipe book and entering in all 900 ingredients? - When we order out locally, I have no idea what's in the food a lot of the time. Don't know what the fancy sushi place puts in their rolls beyond the vague menu description, or how much the beet burger from the health food joint weighs. Could use advice on better ballparking these, too.
I'm not looking for perfection, but it's very clear to me that while I am eating at a deficit, I am also lying to myself somewhat, and I'd like to eventually get to the point where I actually can eyeball some of this stuff.
