A quick background - M/27/6'0"/195, I lost about 30-35 lbs over the last three or so months, basically since the beginning of quarantine. I started implementing running about half way through and now am starting to do a lot of hiking, some at decently high altitudes. I want to lose about 15 more lbs and get to 180 before i start putting muscle on.
I feel like I have gained some muscle, mostly in my legs, and definitely feel more athletically stable. I really want to start lifting now. I have a kettle bell and a dumbbell, and between those and pushups/situps I think I'll be set. How should I focus my diet as far as caloric intake and the types of food im eating? I feel like i need to eat more as im currently at 1500 cal and definitely feel depleted if i overwork myself, at least until dinner time. I played basketball in HS and am familiar with where my baseline athleticism should be; i.e. without serious powerlifting. I want to get back to this stage ASAP. I'm sure its a common question, but any input would be appreciated.
