I'm comparing the data from my Apple watch calories burned to my LoseIt calorie intake to see how big the difference is! So far, I've been keeping track for three weeks and these are my results:
Average Apple Watch TDEE from June 1st to June 21st: 1861 calories per day
Total: 39086 calories
Average caloric intake according to LoseIt from June 1st to June 21st: 1292 calories per day
Total: 27138 calories
I subtracted my total calories eaten from my total calories burned and got 11948 calories, which divided by 3500 says that from June 1st to June 21st, I should've lost 3.4 lbs. On June 1st I weighed 133.6 lbs, and on June 21st I weighed 130.2 lbs, which is a difference of 3.1 lbs. That's a difference of .3 lbs, which is 1050 calories. That means my Apple Watch was overestimating by approximately 50 calories a day, so my TDEE is around 1800 calories a day. That's 100 calories more than calculators estimate my sedentary TDEE and 100 calories less than they estimate my lightly active TDEE!
However, obviously this is a flawed experiment. I'm not 100% accurate with my calories and occasionally estimate for foods that I didn't cook. Some days I wore my Apple Watch longer than others. I'm planning to continue doing this every three weeks and hopefully having more data over a longer period of time will help to smooth out those inconsistencies a bit!
