A story told by weigh-ins (see image)

Hey all! I thought I would share what my week of fun food and increased exercise looked like according to the scale. Each note refers to what happened the day before the weigh-in. For reference I’m F25 5’4”.

I was at my lowest weight of 160 pounds on Tuesday. Then there were several days of salty meals, desserts, and eating more than I originally planned to. I also spent one day hiking 5 miles up and down a mountain, which was so fun, but a definite increase in activity for me. My weight, frustratingly, went UP AND UP continuously for several days, before settling on a new lowest weight of 159.2 the next Wednesday.

I definitely ate saltier and fattier foods than usual, as well as ate above my calorie goal on those days. But the key is that I never ate above my maintenance calories. I never had a “fuck it” moment where I just gave up altogether. And in reality, I gradually lost a little fat over that whole week. It was just hidden by water retention and literal food in my system, only to be revealed once I got back to my normal routine.

I see so many posts where people are worrying about day to day changes in the scale. The truth is that the scale doesn’t show you your fat loss until you look at trends over long periods of time (often longer than just a week). It is NOT perfectly linear. Food, exercise, water, sleep, poop, mentrual cycles, and stress can all affect that daily number on the scale and it =/= fat loss or gain. If you see your weight jump up one day, just stay the course. And don’t ever just say “fuck it” and give up because of these fluctuations. Over time, you should see a downward trend.

I’m also saving this to remind myself that the scale WILL eventually go down again as I’m currently bouncing around 158. ๐Ÿคช
