Recently adopted a cat. She is a bigger than average breed, but she is very overweight so she’s bloody massive. She is losing weight as well now and is very angry about it (apparently she was fed 3+ times a day before so she misses elevenses, second dinners etc).
I wanted to weigh her today to see if there was any progress since my partner weighed her a while ago. Stepped onto the scales with her and realised it put me at the exact weight I was when I started losing weight mid April!
Struggling to hold her in my arms really put it into perspective how much I’d lost.
I couldn’t imagine walking around with her all day, so how did I do it before? A few years ago I lost 60+ lbs so I literally have no clue how I walked around with not only one of her, but about 5 in total.
(Starting weight 156lbs, Current weight 141lbs, 169cm)
(A few years ago I was 199-139. Put on a stone in the last year through bereavement and stress but I’ve been feeling better recently and started changing things starting with weight. I’ve been counting calories and going on more walks. I’ve been eating around 1250-1400 with varying exercise levels )
Edit to include more tips:
- I started trying to bulk eat more- I loved snacking so I eat a lot of frozen grapes now!
- Getting up early in the morning to go on walks motivated me to walk longer and it felt like I got exercise for free because I’d get back home before I even started work. I had to go to bed a bit earlier but it really helped me stay motivated for the day too!
- On the weekends I sometimes eat my TDEE (around 1700). I’m not putting on weight so it’s still a win in my eyes!
- I keep finding gorgeous new low cal salad dressings. I never understood the appeal of salad until I tried dressings but I didn’t realise how ridic high in cal my fave were!
- I realised how much I snack whilst cooking. It was like another 1/2 of my meal on top. I now make a low cal drink when I cook like a hot herbal tea or cordial and sip it.
- My emotions are a little up and down at the moment and I was finding it hard to make proper meals. As a treat I order a large pizza, and then I have 2 slices (plus lil sides like salads) for lunches, maybe 3 for a dinner. Lasts two solid days of meals and it’s minimal effort!!
- I have a weird thing where I feel sick every morning and often throw up. It feels like an intense hunger and very nauseating. Doctors can’t find anything, say it’s stress. Makes sense as it goes away more when I’m not working but it’s really crappy and I wish it would go away! It’s really easy to overeat as a result of it because food is the only thing that makes it go away. But I’ve realised that if I have a single ritz biscuit as I wake up I don’t get it! I used to think “oh god I need to eat loads rn” but actually I don’t.
