There are 1,440 minutes in a day

Hi guys! I never really post on here and just hide in the shadows, BUT if you find it challenging to work out, this might help you! As the title says, there are 1,440 minutes in one day. Looking at it this way, 30 minutes of ANY type of exercise (I love walking/hiking) is negligible in the grand scheme of things. You would still have 1,410 minutes left in the day to do whatever you want! Thinking about exercise in this mindset has helped me to push through those days where I don’t feel like working out. So put those 30 minutes aside to do something beneficial to your physical, mental, and emotional health! The benefits far outweigh the cost of being temporarily uncomfortable. Much love and keep on pushing friends! Thank you for motivating me to continue on my health and wellness journey. :)

I think I messed up my metabolism. I don’t know what to do

I’m a 20 year old 5’7 185 pound female, I’ve lost around 20 pounds since I started to track my calories in April but I made the mistake of eating only 1100 calories. Everybody told me not to but I didn’t listen and now I can’t seem to lose anymore weight, I feel constantly nauseous and I’m starving all day and if I eat over my deficit the scale goes up. I wish I could start weightlifting but I only do around 1h of cardio daily, since I can’t go to the gym because of the pandemic (I live in a third world country) and I really don’t know which other exercise I could do besides jogging and jumping rope, does anybody know what I should do? I feel like I’m stuck and honestly my mental health is going downhill too. (sorry for my english btw)

Proud moment at work today!

So I 35F 6’1” SW 205 lbs CW 179 lbs GW 163 lbs started CICO roughly three months ago and have lost 26 lbs so far. This means for the first time in six years I am no longer overweight! However, my weight loss has definitely stalled at this point and I haven’t really lost any more in two weeks now, so I’m feeling kind of discouraged.

So today I’m at the restaurant where I work as a server, and the manager gathers us to sing happy birthday for the chef. My coworker brings out a gorgeous chocolate cake. At this point I have eaten family meal and have only 400 cal left available. I save these for a light dinner which I eat after my shift and if I eat this cake now I will be hungry by the time I go to bed and risk going over my limit. What happens though is we sing happy birthday and the kitchen guys place the cake right next to my station and get back to setting up for dinner service. Um, a cake was brought out and is sitting there uncovered and no one is eating it I’m sorry what?!

So I go into self loathing mode as I try to polish silverware with the cake in my peripheral. Of course I’m the only one having major anxiety right now, I’m still fat at heart, I’m an embarrassment etc. Finally I decide I’ve had enough, I’m hungry and on a calorie deficit, screw this. I walk into the kitchen with the cake announcing without shame ‘I’m removing this from my line of vision!’ and place it on a counter. To which my coworker says ‘thank you!’

I’m drinking coffee now. They did cut the cake in there eventually but out of my sight. Out of sight out of mind.

I know this may seem trite but I’m proud I stopped blaming myself and did what I needed to do instead of enduring anxiety which would probably lead to eating the cake. I mean who just leaves an uncovered shiny cake out and can focus on work? Not me and that’s fine

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Monday, 28 June 2021? Start here!

Today is your Day 1?

Welcome to r/Loseit!

So you aren’t sure of how to start? Don’t worry! “How do I get started?” is our most asked question. r/Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we’ve found most useful for getting started.

Why you’re overweight

Our bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently.

Before You Start

The very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week.

Tracking

Here is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer. r/loseit recommends an app like MyFitnessPal, Loseit! (unaffiliated), or Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don’t cheat the numbers. You’ll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why? This may explain it.

Creating Your Deficit

How do you create a deficit? This is up to you. r/loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian.

The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you’re eating you won’t stick to it.

Exercise

Is NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight.

It has it’s own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel *awesome* and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes.

Crawl, Walk, Run

It can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn’t necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments.

Acceptance

You will struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better.

Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don’t need perfect. We just want better.

Had to get my bridesmaids dress altered

My oldest and one of my best friends is getting married next month and I’m a bridesmaid. When I first tried on this dress 8 months ago, I weighed 80kg/176lbs (down from 87kg/191lbs) and felt very frumpy in it. I wanted to be the hot bridesmaid! I was already on a weight loss journey but this “before” pic spurred me on.

I lost the weight through CICO and daily exercise, that’s it. I have no special secret or hacks to lose weight, much to the disappointment of many people who ask me for tips!!

I am now maintaining 56kg/123lbs (total 31kg/68lbs lost) and I just tried on my dress again today after getting it altered. I’m very proud of the after picture and I can’t wait to show off the new me at the wedding haha.

I’ve had a tough journey, with backlash from family members over how much weight I’ve lost, and I still have some bad days with regards overeating but I am so proud of how far I’ve come.

I brought my goal dress today. I'm so demotivated and disillusioned with myself and my ability to lose weight. Day 1 (again).

I am 23 F CW: 100kg (221lbs) HW: 103.5kg (228lbs) GW: 63.5kg (140lbs).

I have struggled to lose weight for the last 2 years, I have tried CICO and IF, before going to the GP and being diagnosed with PCOS. I was told to go low carb, which is how Ive lose the first 5lbs. But I've lost all my motivation. Eating carbs is so much easier, and eating to much or when I'm not hungry is too accessible. I walk quite a lot, averaging 10000 steps a day as a healthcare assistant, but the office is constantly full of sweets and biscuits that I really struggle to say no too. Every morning I wake up and say I will be good today, and then I immediately fall of the wagon and eat, and eat, and eat. No matter how much I hate photos of myself, or how much I want to be slim and fit nice clothes and be able to buy bras at Primark, my motivation is non-existent whenever food is in front of me. I'm so mad at myself for that.

So I will try again, and today I brought a beautiful linen dress that does not fit. It's close, but it's about 10kgs away from being flattering. So that's my first target. It seems impossibly huge a target, but so does 80lbs/40kgs.

Today is a write off, but I hope tomorrow is the last day 1.

Hi, I'm new here.

Hello, my name is Butter.

I'm joining up here to try and get motivated, I really need to get into shape and lower my fat %.

I struggle with motivation, I get motivated quickly (a few days to get into a new routine) but unfortunately I get unmotivated exactly as fast if not faster. Like if I have a bad depression week I just don't work out for a long time.

I used to be in decent shape, with mostly my extra weight on my abdomen, I got pregnant and added 50 pounds. It was all belly. I looked ridiculous lol. I slowly dropped that 50 but to say I have lost 50 pounds so far feels like lying, it was extra,10 of it was baby and my body didn't want it.

Anyway, I am very oddly proportioned, I wear a small or a size 8 (yes I know how bad women's sizes are trust me) in jeans and leggings. But my chest is large and so I have to get shirts at torrid. It's really annoying. My fat % is still mainly centered around my abdomen.

My concerns are my blood sugar and general health. I am/was boarder line pre-diabetic and have to stay on a little as possible sugar and carb diet because of that. I have had reactions to ice cream for the past few years and the past few weeks also to milk and cheese, so I am also cutting out dairy as much as possible.

I have a pretty bad shoulder injury on my left and that makes working out difficult, as well as being in an upstairs apartment.

I do know quite a bit about different diets, fat vs muscle, water ect so in that I am not a beginner, I just need to actually use my knowledge. It can get hard with my mental health to keep going because I just want to lay in bed half the time. Anyway I guess I'll be hanging out here :)
